The Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board (CNY RPDB) held a series of focus group meetings for County representatives, as well as Regional Stakeholders to review draft goals, strategies, and project recommendations for the Vision CNY Regional Sustainability Plan during the last week in November 2012.
In addition, several meetings of the agency’s 35-member board of directors have been held over the past six months for the purpose of providing input and monitoring progress on this initiative. To ensure that the Vision CNY Plan incorporates the many notable sustainability planning efforts that are currently underway throughout Central New York, the CNY RPDB distributed a survey to each county and municipality and has received responses from nearly one-third of the region’s local governments.
The goal of Vision CNY is to develop a regional sustainability plan that identifies projects that will significantly improve the economic and environmental health of the Central New York Region. Vision CNY is part of the New York State Cleaner Greener Communities program, and will be eligible to compete for $90 million in capital improvement project funds which will be made available by the state beginning in 2013.
Work on this project was initiated by the CNY RPDB in June 2012 and is scheduled for completion by January 2013.
